Lamond Veterinary Clinic: Harry Haworth imageHarry qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College in Edinburgh, in 1979. He started his professional career in Ayrshire at a mainly agricultural practice, twenty miles from his town of birth, Ayr. Harry joined the Lamond Veterinary Clinic in 1980 when it was located in Bank Street, Midcalder. His main interest and focus of attention was the busy small animal side of the practice, although he did enjoy the variety of some farm work before the practice became totally small animal in 1996. Harry still gets great satisfaction from both medical and surgical aspects of practice as well as sharing the day to day management of a busy practice.

After many years of working with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at their welfare centre at Balerno and with the Societies Inspectors in many varied welfare cases, he was delighted to be invited to become a Director in 2005. This has given an interesting insight into all aspects of the charity at a time when the Society is going through many changes to greatly improve its ability to respond to all the demands in improving animal welfare in Scotland. Currently they are very involved with the new legislation going through our Scottish Parliament in 2007 to update the Animal Welfare Bill. ”I would urge all clients who want to see animal welfare improved to support Scotland's largest animal charity, the SSPCA.”

Harry’s hobbies include keeping reasonably fit at the gym or preferably, weather allowing, some hill walking. He also enjoys being active in Bathgate Rotary which gives a good mix of social and charity fund raising. He is married to Miriam, formerly a Radiographer but who now looks after the practice accounts. Harry has two grown up daughters: Hannah (mid wife) and Charlotte (student in Radiotherapy). Ruby, a ’well built’ Collie, and Sid, a Labrador, complete the family.

“I hope to see the practice continue to expand as a modern, well equipped and above all a caring small animal veterinary clinic.”
